Density Factor
Allocated Hour and Mileage Values
Fields were added to the Tax Body and Route Alllocation files to accommodate new values that can be used to measure the effectiveness of specific routes. The files and fields affected are:
TBDY
TDFACT (2.0 Numeric field) – Tax Body Reciprocal Density Factor
RALL
RATAMV (9.3 Numeric Field)- RALL Allocated Mileage Value by Tax Body
RATAHV (9.3 Numeric Field) – RALL Allocated Hourly Value by Tax Body
Example of why and how this is used:
Route C1 picks up trash in tax bodies CITY and RURAL. There were 25 stops picked up in the CITY and 10 in RURAL. The route took 4 hours and covered 100 miles. There was 1 landfill dump, which totaled 8.25 tons. Our previous programs would have allocated the route information as follows:
TAXBODY STOPS % LANDFILL HOURS MILES
CITY 25 (25/35)=71.4 5.89 TN 2.86 HR 71.4
RURAL 10 (10/35)=28.6 2.36 TN 1.14 HR 28.6
Totals 35 100 8.25 4.00 100
This example works great for calculating the amount of landfill tons, but isn’t necessarily accurate for hours and miles. The stops in the city could very easily be right next door to each other, where the rural area could have stops miles apart. Due to this fact, we have added a Density field, which will hold the reverse density figure for this tax body. This number is to be determined by the Operations Manager. In our example above, we could now say that the CITY is 5 times denser than the RURAL tax body. So our density factor would be CITY = 1, RURAL = 5. When we take this factor into consideration, our new allocations are as follows:
TBODY STOPS % LNDFILL DENSITY DENSITY% HOURS MILES
CITY 25 71.4 5.89 TN (25 * 1)=25 (25/75)=.333 1.33 HR 33.3
RURAL 10 28.6 2.36 TN (10 * 5)=50 (50/75)=.667 2.67 HR 66.7
Totals 35 100 8.25 75 100 4.00 100
Where does all this information come from? RALL records are created during Route List generations. A separate record is created for each Tax Body within the created Route List. We calculate and store the number of stops by Tax Body in this file. The density factor is stored in the tax body master. The user manually keys in the landfill tons, hours and miles into the route costing files. When the Route Costing file is posted, the RALL file fields RATAMV and RATAHV will get updated based on the calculations above.
